Resolution C-04-09
(13 Kb) on the Conservation of Tuna in the eastern Pacific
Ocean in 2004-2006 establishes that:
1. the
fishery for tunas by purse-seine vessels in the EPO shall be closed from
either (1) 1 August to 11 September; or (2) 20 November to 31 December.
2. each
IATTC Party, cooperating non-party, fishing entity or regional economic
integration organization (“CPC”) shall prohibit fishing by all of its
purse-seine vessels during one of the two periods.
3. landings,
transshipments and commercial transactions in tuna or tuna products
originating from fishing activities that contravene this resolution are
prohibited.
For 2004, the following
closures are in effect:

Colombia has
not chosen either of the two closure periods, but is implementing
its own
unilateral measures (3 Kb)
,considered by
various Parties not to be consistent with
the Resolution.
Weekly reports are sent to the
governments,
informing them of possible illegal fishing activity during the
closure.
Resolution C-04-09
prohibits "landings, transshipments and commercial transactions in
tuna or tuna products ... originating from fishing activities that
contravene this resolution." To assist in the
implementation of this provision, the Commission staff is
obtaining information on tuna caught in contravention of the
Resolution.
