In
collaboration with George Watters, Mark developed the
A-SCALA
(681 Kb) stock assessment model that is used to assess
tunas in the EPO by the IATTC. Mark also collaborates
with Simon Hoyle on a project funded by PFRP to develop
and apply modeling methodology for protected species.
This project has involved modeling of the northeastern
offshore spotted dolphin stock in the EPO and a Hawaiian
black footed albatross population. Mark has taught a
course in ecological modeling at the Scripps Institution
of Oceanography and short courses on stock assessment,
AD Model Builder, and ecological modeling. Marks main
research interests are in the development of methods for
fisheries stock assessment and ecological modeling.
