El Dr. James Joseph
quien laboró en la CIAT de 1958 a 2000 y fue su director de 1969 a 1999, falleció repentinamente el 16 de diciembre de 2009. Todos los que lo conocimos estamos tristes por su trágica muerte. Además, todos los involucrados con atunes, en cualquier capacidad, se han beneficiado del ilustrado manejo de su posición como director de la CIAT y de sus actividades posteriores (al momento de su muerte era director del comité científico del International Seafood Sustainability Foundation). In addition, everyone who is involved with tuna in any way has benefitted from his wise handling of his position as Director of the IATTC and his subsequent activities.
