IATTC

The Antigua Convention, which was negotiated to strengthen and replace the 1949 Convention establishing the IATTC, entered into force on 27 August 2010.

The Convention is open to the following: (a) the Parties to the 1949 Convention; (b) States not Party to the 1949 Convention with a coastline bordering the Convention Area; (c) States whose vessels fish for fish stocks covered by the Convention, following consultation with the Parties; or (d) States that are otherwise invited to join on the basis of a decision by the Parties.

In accordance with Article XXVIII of the Convention any fishing entity whose vessels have fished for fish stocks covered by this Convention at any time during the four years preceding the adoption of this Convention may express its firm commitment to abide by the terms of this Convention and comply with any conservation and management measures adopted pursuant thereto, by: (a) signing an instrument drafted in accordance with the resolution adopted by the Commission; and/or (b) providing a written communication in accordance with the resolution adopted by the Commission.
