    • Obtain an order-of-magnitude estimate of shark catch for the artisanal fleet. 
    • Design and test sampling protocols for estimating shark species and size composition for the industrial fleet.

    Conduct Phase 1 (1st year) of a long-term sampling program of shark catches by artisanal fisheries in Central America, using sampling methods and logistics developed under the extended FAO-GEF project.

    Objectives:
    Contribute towards the development and implementation of a regional shark fishery sampling program in the EPO, providing data for several types of stock assessments at IATTC (e.g. data-limited assessments, Close Kin Mark Recapture assessments, and conventional assessments).
