Differences from similar species

Thunnus albacares has a shorter pectoral fin. The mid-ventral region has patterns of lines and dots. The body is more laterally compressed. The edges of the liver are not striated. T. orientalis has a shorter pectoral fin that reaches half the distance between the first and second dorsal fin.
