Differences from similar species

Carcharhinus obscurus has the origin of the first dorsal fin located over the inner edges of the pectoral fins. In C. galapagensis the inner edge of the second dorsal fin is less than twice the fin height. C. limbatus is similar only in the Spanish common name used by crew members, “punta negra”.
